Bio

Martin Phillips

Lighting Designer, Show Designer, Creative Director

Born in London and reared on a steady diet of sci-fi and punk rock, Martin Phillips landed in San Francisco with a pocketful of lint and big ideas. Within a very short time, he went from cobbling stage effects out of club lights and construction debris to pushing the limits of new technology for international heavy hitters such as Nine Inch Nails, Bush, and Soda Stereo.

Determined to create the most memorable experiences possible, he co-founded Bionic League in Los Angeles in 2008, meeting the artistically demanding needs of artists such as Kanye West, Lady Gaga, The Weeknd, and Blink 182, while also producing award-winning experiential marketing events for AMEX, Pepsi, and Target.

Believing that the live music experience should be transporting, by design, Phillips views his clients’ work as seriously as they do, while having as much fun as their fans do. The result is iconic imagery for artists such as Daft Punk and Deadmau5, spreading beyond stadium walls and influencing popular culture. At his Philadelphia-based design firm, Big Giant Eye, Phillips sets his sights on the future, utilizing a unique point of view to create a unique visual experience. It’s where cutting edge technology meets old school theatricality, and where off-world concepts are achieved, seemingly, in the blink of an eye.
